Ticks gained national attention in 1975 with the introduction to Lyme Disease; and since then, they have been an increasing problem in all Canadian provinces. Not only do [deer] ticks feed on people, but they are also aggressive towards pets including dogs and cats. For homeowners interested in seeing a reduction in ticks, they may consider inviting a new pet into their homes: a backyard chicken.
Free-roaming chickens are just one of the many types of poultry that eat ticks. In addition to chickens, turkeys and guinea hens will eat the nasty arachnids. Tick management isn't the only use of poultry; however, did you know that they also kill snakes, moles and mice?
Free-roaming chickens in the yard help keep family members and pets safe from tick infections while helping bakers produce the best-tasting baked goods in town!
