The media keeps pushing the threat of Lyme Disease but they never talk about the numbers. Well, it's time to check out the Lyme Disease statistics in Canada.
In the U.S., over 300,000 individuals are affected by tick bites and Lyme Disease each year. Canada is a bit luckier; but the numbers aren't great. In 2009, 128 individuals positively tested for Lyme Disease. The number rose to 707 in 2015 and they are only increasing.
Ticks can harm dogs and cats and the symptoms of Lyme Disease make pets very ill and can last for several weeks. So far in 2018, over 1400 dogs have positively tested for Lyme.
As pet owners, parents and outdoor enthusiasts, we need to be aware of the numbers of Lyme Disease and actions to rid deer carrying ticks from landscapes.
