Repel Rabbits In Gardens. Here's How.

by Jennifer Smith March 22, 2018

Bunnies: adorably fluffy with cottontails and tall ears; but their looks do not make up for their behavior in the garden.

Rabbits are one of the first small garden critters to ruin flowerbeds and vegetable gardens (they love eating carrots, after all). As we begin seeding vegetables and planting flowers, there are ways for gardeners to repel rabbits from home gardens both effectively and affordably.

Here's what gardeners can plant to keep rabbits away from flowerbeds:

  1. Asparagus
  2. Basil
  3. Daffodils (deer-resistant plant)
  4. Conflower
  5. Periwinkle (ground cover)
  6. Goatweed
  7. Rhododendrum
  8. Camellias

Rabbits will hate the smell and taste of these flowers; and although they are effective for ridding rabbits from the garden, this method for rabbit management should be used as a secondary course of action. The most effective means for ridding rabbits from gardens is to install a rodent barrier fence made from a chew-proof steel. The fence mesh will block attempts from bunnies trying to saw through the other side of the fence.

As Easter approaches, and the Easter Bunny is hopping towards gardens, gardeners should consider these methods for controlling rabbit damage.
