Repel Bunnies From Gardens In Spring

by Jennifer Smith March 07, 2019

March begins rabbit breeding season and bunnies will soon be hopping around gardens. In fact, pregnant rabbits give birth in just 28-30 days! Therefore, home gardeners will need to start thinking about best management practices to rid rabbits from lawns and gardens before they arrive.

Rabbits don't just eat carrots. They'll eat all sorts of greens in spring including leafy greens like collard greens, herbs such as basil and cilantro and vegetables such as celery and broccoli.

In case deer weren't enough of a worry this spring, curious bunnies and adult rabbits will hop onto yards to eat from home gardens. To prevent loss in veggies, growers will need to build a steel hexagonal fence with PVC. This type of fence is used to repel groundhogs and protect poultry from coyotes, wolves and foxes.

To keep away rabbits, gardeners will need to trench the fence into the ground at least 6 inches to prevent burrowing attempts.

Bunnies do not shy away from gardens in spring; so, growers will need to act soon.
