Not only is March the start of tick season; but it is National Tick Awareness Month, an observance month designated by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association to teach pet owners about the dangers of pet tick diseases. 

Many pet owners are often shocked to learn that Lyme Disease in dogs and cats is common. Although the effects of the disease differ with both animal, the signs of Lyme Disease in pets are the same. If your pet is suffering from the below symptoms, then they might have Lyme Disease.

Signs of Lyme Disease in pets:

• Unsteadiness
• Weak Muscles
• Excessive Drooling
• Lack of Energy
• Lack of Appetite

Lyme Disease in dogs can last for several weeks or months; rather than cats with Lyme Disease that show off effects for a few days. Antibiotics can be given to pet owners for their pets to battle Lyme Disease. As with humans, there is no cure for Lyme Disease. 

March is also the start of planting season across North America; and white-tailed deer will be circling around home gardens to eat spring flowers and fresh vegetables. Protect pets from ticks and the risk of Lyme Disease by building a deer fence or pet fence. The yard fencing will block attempts from deer to get over to properties. 

Building yard fence around the full house perimeter or garden will reduce the number of deer on landscapes and remove the risk of deer ticks.
