Building a DIY Fence? Get These Accessories

by Jennifer Smith January 24, 2019

Fence accessories may sound like another way to spend money; but the truth is, homeowners will appreciate having these extra items to reinforce the strength of the garden fence. Here are the top accessories for deer fencing:

Tensioning

When homeowners add fence mesh to the posts, they may notice that the fence is sagging in the middle - that is if the fence posts are not spaced far enough apart. To tighten the fence at the top, it's best to use monofilament wire. The tensioning is available in 8 ga and 12 ga and is easy to install.

Warning Banners

The white deer flags are used to stand out for deer and symbolize a deer tail - meaning "warning" or "caution." The deer flags let a white-tailed deer know that a structure is in front of them, as to avoid hitting the fence. Remember, deer do not see the color black well enough to avoid collision if charging at full speed.

Zip Ties

Heavy Duty zip ties are used to attach the fence mesh to the posts. The fence tools used for zip tie assembly are even more important than the self-locking ties themselves. The cutter-puller tool, for example, tightens zip ties; snips off excess ties; and removes zip ties when ready to take down the fence (if you ever choose to do so).

Access Gates

An access gate completes the look of the deer fence; and allows for easy entry and exit to-and-from the gate. They are available in various sizes.
