Living With Chronic Lyme Disease

by Jennifer Smith May 01, 2018

When patients are first diagnosed with Lyme Disease, they are unsure how to feel. They may shrug it off and think 'At least it's not worse;' but they may not realize the long road ahead for them. More often than not, Chronic Lyme Disease victims feel lethargic, tired, sick, and unable to get out of bed from the pain.

When dealing with Chronic Lyme Disease, there are a few rules to live by (as recommended by CanLyme):

  1. Avoid caffeine or other stimulants that may affect sleep quality.
  2. Avoid alcohol or use in moderation.
  3. No smoking.
  4. Exercise to your ability when possible being careful not to overdo it.
  5. Modify your diet to include high quality protein and be high in fibre and low in fat and carbohydrates – reduce simple carbohydrates, use those with low glycemic index.
  6. Get lots of rest.

Coping with any illness is better in groups than solo. Join a Lyme Disease Support Group in your area; and network with other Lyme Disease survivors. Get inspired. Feel energized. Educate others about the illness; and lead a seminar or workshop. Help others feel better. There are many ways to get involved!

Although there is no cure for Lyme Disease, there are ways to deal with Chronic Lyme Disease and the pain associated with it.
