How To Care For Trees

by Jenn Smith February 17, 2020

Trees are best planting in the dormant seasons when the weather is cool and the plants are able to establish root systems. Therefore, the best time to grow trees is in fall and right before spring.

Tree growers that plant trees before the spring season will encounter challenges from wild animals that may try to damage tree trunks. Deer, for one, are known for rubbing their antlers against trees in the fall and winter months. Come spring, deer will eat tree bark and will not say "no" to the sweet taste of fruits that they find on and around trees.

To protect trees from deer damage, tree growers will need to wrap tree guards around the base of young trees, or install deer fencing around tree farms. These are the best deer management strategies for tree maintenance throughout the year.
