Holiday Plants Safe For Pets

by Jenn Smith November 27, 2019

Some plants are iconic for the holiday season; and of course, homeowners want them around their homes. While homeowners may be excited to deck the halls with boughs of holly, pets aren't sharing the enthusiasm about some plants - this is because some holiday plants can make dogs very sick if ingested. However, there are plenty of plants in winter that can be around pets including:

  • Christmas Cactus - however, even this type of plant can prick dogs and the needles can become choking hazards for dogs.
  • Red Roses - The dark red buds can easily replace poinsettia plants and be just as romantic and picturesque.
  • White orchids - Use them instead of lilies. They will look great surrounded by rose buds and can create a peaceful theme.
  • Achira plants -This type of plant looks similar to amaryllis but doesn't have the same level of toxicity. Not only is this red plant safe around pets, but it can be used as a substitute for cornstarch in cooking.

These holiday plant alternatives are safe for pets and will help put homeowners in the Christmas spirit.
