Gardening In Fall: What To Plant

by Jenn Smith September 25, 2019

Fall is a great time to be in a home garden planting fresh vegetables for salads and side dishes. While spring and summer was all about growing fruits in orchards, fall is when gardeners plant veggies that can handle cooler temperatures including:

  • Lettuce, kale, collard greens
  • Peas
  • Carrots
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Radish
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Garlic

Deer are more persistent in the autumn season to eat because they know that natural resources will become scarce in the winter when the snow begins to fall. Home growers are encouraged to act on deer management strategies such as deer fence installation.

Gardeners that want to see deer eat throughout the fall season can help by planting acorns, soybeans and corn away from vegetable gardens. Deer will appreciate the gesture. After all, these crops are their favorite!
