Don't Buy Pets As Gifts.

by Jenn Smith December 12, 2019

Buying a pet as a gift may look sweet on the big screen; but in real life, it can cause trouble. If the receiving end is not ready for the responsibility of caring for pets, then the puppy, kitty or adult animal can suffer. Instead of gifting pets, pet enthusiasts can spend time together doing the following pet-related activities - all for the love of companion pets:

  • Volunteer at a local animal shelter;
  • Spread the word about pet adoption;
  • Have conversations about responsible pet ownership;
  • sponsor a pet;
  • Donate financially to local animal shelters.

Caring for a living thing is a huge responsibility. Make sure the receiving end is ready for the 10+ year commitment. Ask questions like "Are they mature enough to care for an animal?", "Will the pet have an open area to run and play that is fenced in and secure?", and "Will the pet receive love, health care, toys and bonding time with the owner?"
