Pet owners beware: tick season begins in March; and yes, dogs can get Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases.
Outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers and campers, are mainly concerned about being bit by ticks this time of year; but we sometimes forget about our four-legged friends.
Here are the top spots to check for ticks on dogs after time spent outside in the yard; at the dog park; or in the woods:
Dogs bit by ticks will need to visit the veterinarian to check for Lyme Disease. Dogs with Lyme will experience the following reactions:
How do pets get Lyme Disease? From tick bites spread by wildlife. Therefore, pet owners will need to protect their pets from wildlife encounters and tick droppings on yards with deer fencing.
