Spring is a busy time of year for a doe. The lady deer kicks out her young male deer that has been tailing her for the past year; and she will have a late pregnancy in the springtime.
The doe and her young (from a birth in the fall) will be searching for food on home garden turf to try to regain weight loss in the winter season. The small deer herd will digest mushrooms, grasses and vegetables they find.
Deer activity in the spring is quite different than in the winter season; and it's important for gardeners to keep away deer this season. Not only are deer on the move for food; but they are spreading deer ticks along the way. This is why home growers need to build deer fence on properties to rid deer from gardens and to stop the spread of deer ticks.
