Norfolk County OPP kindly ask drivers not to veer to the side of the road for wildlife. Although we can appreciate attempts from drivers to try not to kill wildlife, pulling aside can cause more issues than attended for drivers.
Drivers need to be aware as they drive, looking side to side with eyes only for deer and other wildlife. As deer approach vehicles, drivers need to reduce speed and continue driving straight ahead - and always wear a seat belt."Don't veer for wildlife," said Const. Ed Sanchuk in a release. "By changing your direction quickly, you increase the risk of losing control, running off the roadway and rolling your vehicle."
For construction areas, or landscape areas with high deer traffic, it's recommended that deer fencing is installed to safeguard drivers from deer collisions.
