Can You Legally Grow Marijuana In Canada?

by Jennifer Smith April 02, 2019

As Americans are partying over the recreational use of marijuana, and celebrating National Cannabis Month, Parliament is struggling to answer the question from Canadian growers "Can we legally grow cannabis in our farms?" After all, smoking recreational marijuana is now legal in Canada; so, what's the problem?

Each province in Canada has different laws for growing pot; and as of now, the federal government set a limit of four plants per household. For example, British Columbia allows growers to plant in the backyard, but the plants cannot be visible to their neighbors. In New Brunswick, plants need to be locked away in an enclosure. Residents of Quebec and Manitoba are out of luck on growing all together with the ban on marijuana.

If seeds can be found, legally purchased, then growers will be able to plant and grow weed at home. Growing weed at home may be easier inside than outside for the time being until the government changes the rules in the next few months (pending). Growing will require direct sunlight; rich soil; a lot of watering; and care. Weed growing can take up to 5 months; but the investment is worth it to get a part of this multi-billion dollar industry.
