As long as temperatures remain above freezing ticks can easily attach onto wildlife, people and pets. During cooler months, ticks will hide underneath logs and leaves to seek shelter and insulation. Therefore, it's important not to rake leaves, or stack firewood, too closely to homes to avoid ticks wandering into homes.
Ticks remain a year-long concern; and it's important to wear long-sleeved clothing and tick repellent containing DEET when outdoors. Do a thorough tick check after outdoor activities; and know how to properly remove a tick from the skin.
Keep on the lookout for ticks during fall and winter months. Read tick disease prevention tips and see where ticks are mostly found throughout Canada.
