August Begins Bird Migration Season

August marks the beginning of fall migration for birds when they begin flocking, or gathering in groups. This month, they will travel throughout the country in search of food and warmer climates and continue their flight patterns throughout the fall season. Birds can be a nuisance to home gardeners as they gravitate to sweet-tasting fruits, vegetables and flowers. There are a few ways to reduce the sight of birds on landscapes during the summer and fall bird migration months.

1. Bird netting

Using a bird net keeps out birds from above while stopping whitetail deer from indulging on freshly planted fruits. Bird netting is made from a loose poly mesh that is lightweight and easy to handle. Simply drape over blueberry bushes or other shrubs to keep birds away for years to come.

2. Garden Enclosures With Top

Fully enclosed garden fences are mainly used to secure raised flowerbeds from the threat of deer browsing; however, they can also be used to keep away birds and other small critters. To keep birds away, the fencing will need to be made from tiny holes.
