Animal Shelter Appreciation Week 2019

by Jenn Smith November 05, 2019

The first full week of November is declared to be National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, a time to thank animal shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries for the care they provide to stray and abandoned dogs and cats. During the month of November, animal rescues encourage prospective pet owners to adopt, not shop.

Canadian shelters took in almost 200,000 animals in 2012, says the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies(CFHS). The CFHS crunched the numbers from more than 100 shelters across the country. Its report found 119,000 cats, 53,000 dogs and 15,000 other animals were taken in and cared for by shelters.

Approximately, 3700 pets are euthanized in Canada each year because they are deemed unadoptable and they are taking up too much space in shelters. While there are plenty of no-kill animal shelters throughout the nation, not all shelters can offer a 90 percent survival rate for animals. Let's stop killing homeless pets and find them a forever home!

Today, there are 7.4 million households with dogs and 9.3 million households with cats. Isn't it time you considered pet adoption?

Throughout the month of November, DeerbustersCanada will offer discounts on pet fencing to animal rescues and sanctuaries. Contact DeerbustersCanada.ca to learn more.
