Alberta Officer Shoots To Break Up Entangled Deer

by Jennifer Smith November 07, 2018

Spoiler alert: The Alberta police officer shoots off the antler of a deer to save both deer lives. Neither deer die, nor were seriously injured.

But, he didn't have a choice. He had to free the entangled deer; as some bucks try to show dominance during the rut season (mating season).

"They fight by putting their antlers together, and whoever is bigger and stronger tends to win," says Mike Little, the fish and wildlife officer who responded to the call.

Sometimes sawing off an antler is necessary; but if you have as good as a shot as Mike Little, you can simply aim and shoot.

See the video now:

November is the heart of rut season, as bucks try to find a suitable doe to mate. In September, bucks rubbed up against trees to shed the dried velvet from their antlers; and now they are ready for the next step.

Boys fighting over a girl, though? Please, stop.
