Adding Deer Fence Tensioning Wire

by Jenn Smith February 18, 2020

Tensioning wire on deer fence is recommended to homeowners for a number of reasons.

For one, tension wire allows for posts to be spaced closer together - at 10' feet apart rather than 15' apart. This, however, will lead to fence mesh sagging between posts; and this is where tensioning wire becomes handy. Tension wire will keep the fence nice and taut to block jumping attempts from deer and other wildlife. Furthermore, tensioning wire is useful for areas with high winds and trees. If a tree branch falls on the fence, the monofilament wire will keep the fence from harm.

Lines of monofilament wire are recommended for the top of the fence line but can also be placed at the bottom for additional support. When considering add-ons for deer fence, consider buying monofilament wire.
